Have you met Tony, SAB’s Senior LAN Administrator, and his impressive collection of cell phones? Spend the next 2 minutes getting to know him a little better.

Where is your favourite place on campus?

My most favourite place on campus is the Clare Drake Arena. It’s got a lot of history, and — I like skating there at lunch. It’s great having a rink at work.

Tablet or paper?

Tablet.

Name one thing you’ve brought to work from home.

Pictures! My kids’ pictures.

What is the one thing you can’t live without?

Coke zero.

If you won airfare to anywhere in the world, where would you go?

New York, so that my daughters can meet my grandmother.

If you could invite anyone — alive or dead, real or fictional — to dinner, who would it be?

There’s so many good people to choose from — including recipients that got the U of A alumni distinguished award — which is who I’d like to choose from. I think out of that list I would say Sister Annata Brockman because she helped me become a better Catholic and she’s a great role model to my kids.

If you could switch jobs with someone else on campus for a week, what would you do?

I’ve thought about this — all the time! That’s easy. The SMS delivery agents. I think they have the greatest job and they’re always so cheerful and they get to go all over campus and get to know everybody.

What does “uplifting the whole people” mean to you?

I experienced the true meaning of [the university’s promise] when my daughters attended an All Girls DiscoverE Summer Camp at the Faculty of Engineering. They wouldn’t have this unique opportunity if it were not for the student instructors, volunteers, and generous donors.

If you could solve any problem in the world, what would it be?

The lack of education in developing countries. I think if there was one educated child in every household that would solve a lot of problems.

What 3 words best describe your U of A experience?

Interesting, exciting and proud.

About Tony Yung

A working member of the U of A community since 1999, Tony has worked in various roles within the Office of the Registrar and Student Awards, the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR), the Office of the Provost, and is now a member of the Information Services and Technology Department where he provides support for the offices in SAB. He is also quite possibly the owner of the U of A’s largest old personal cell phone collection (even if it looks like he might be missing the ‘80’s brick phone).
