This week, the University of Alberta is celebrating public speaking champions, a UN Youth Representative appointment, a new Multi-faith Prayer and Meditation Space in HUB Mall, and more! So, congrats to the following:

• Dan Cockcroft, Master's Student, Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, Faculty of Arts - shortlisted for this year's New Media Writing Prize

• Marnie Colborne, Student and President of the Nursing Undergraduate Association, Faculty of Nursing - selected as one of two Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) United Nations Youth Representatives

• Hadley Friedland, Visiting Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law - recently appointed to Assistant Professor within the faculty

• Jeff Kavanaugh, Associate Professor, Department of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, Faculty of Science - named Instructor of the Month in the Faculty of Science

• Katie Bhar McPherson, Student, Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences - placed first in the faculty's annual Macgregor Smith Public Speaking Competition

• Brennan Munro, Student, Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences - placed second in the faculty's annual Macgregor Smith Public Speaking Competition

• Brett Walsh, Golden Bears Volleyball - broke the Canada West conference record for assists with his 3,655th career assist on Saturday night at Saville Community Sports Centre

• Mariah Walsh, Pandas Volleyball - named UAlberta Athlete of the Week and Canada West First Star of the Week

• Chengtao Yan, Student, Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences - placed third in the faculty's annual Macgregor Smith Public Speaking Competition

We're also celebrating the new Multi-faith Prayer and Meditation Space in HUB Mall, which opened January 26!
