Closure of University of Alberta Museums Galleries at Enterprise Square

University of Alberta Museums Galleries at Enterprise Square is closing at the end of March. The final exhibit at Enterprise Square, International Print Exhibition: Canada and Japan, runs until March 25.

The space, which has been used for temporary exhibitions since 2012, is being closed due to budgetary constraints. No continuing staff members are affected by this closure, which was a difficult but necessary decision.

The U of A continues to be responsible for 29 museum collections located in faculties and departments across our campuses. Some are accessible to the public by appointment, through university classes, hallway exhibits and public programs. These collections are instrumental to teaching and research and benefit society by deepening our understanding of our world. The university will ensure the public continues to benefit from our collections by strengthening partnerships with existing galleries and museum spaces in the region, province and beyond.

No final decision has been made about future use of the galleries space. The university intends to repurpose the space, and is currently reviewing a variety of strategic options.

For more information regarding this matter, please contact either Janine Andrews, executive director, Museums and Collections Services andrewsj@ualberta.ca; or Gerald Beasley, vice-provost (learning services) and chief librarian gbeasley@ualberta.ca.
