Pandas Hockey, 2017 U SPORTS Champions

Pandas Hockey, 2017 U SPORTS ChampionsThis week, the University of Alberta is celebrating a National Championship for Pandas Hockey, the Herb Link Memorial Award recipient, a literary prize finalist, and more! So, congrats to the following:

• Shahed Bayesteh, Student, Department of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - received the Herb Link Memorial Award

• Sarah Carter, Professor and Tory Chair, Department of History & Classics, Faculty of Arts - shortlisted for the Canadian Historical Association's Sir John A. Macdonald Prize, and named a finalist for the 2017 Great Plains Distinguished Book Prize, for her book, Imperial Plots: Women, Land, and the Spadework of British Colonialism on the Canadian Prairies

• Meg Casault, Pandas Volleyball - named U SPORTS Player of the Year

• Tom Hobman, Professor, Department of Cell Biology, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - awarded a $500,000 CIHR grant to better understand and diagnose the Zika virus

• Ember Large, Student, Faculty of Arts - won the Relay Cross race in the Canadian Colleges and University Nordic Championships category at Canadian Cross Country Ski Nationals

• Lindsey Post, Pandas Hockey - named U of A Athlete of the Week and U SPORTS Athlete of the Week

• Kat Stone, Student, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - won the Relay Cross race in the Canadian Colleges and University Nordic Championships category at Canadian Cross Country Ski Nationals

• The Engineering Students' Society - raised more than $1,600 for Habitat for Humanity Edmonton at their annual charity event, Pi Week

• Pandas Hockey - won the U SPORTS Women's National Hockey Championship, the eighth national title in program history

• Golden Bears Curling - won the silver medal at the 2017 U SPORTS/Curling Canada Curling Championships

• Pandas Curling - won the bronze medal at the 2017 U SPORTS/Curling Canada Curling Championships

• Golden Bears Volleyball - won the silver medal at the U SPORTS Men's Volleyball Championship

• Pandas Volleyball - won the silver medal at the U SPORTS Women's Volleyball Championship
