• Tyson Baillie, Golden Bears Hockey - named Canada West Hockey Rookie of the Year (M)

• Meg Casault, Pandas Volleyball - named Canada West Player of the Year

• Leith Deacon, Assistant Professor, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Faculty of Science - received a Kule Cluster Grant for his project Boom/Bust in Canada: Tempering Canadian Experiences of Resource Dependency Boom/Bust in Canada: Tempering Canadian Experiences of Resource Dependency

• Laurie Eisler, Head Coach, Pandas Volleyball - named Canada West Coach of the Year

• Gerhard Ens, Professor, Department of History and Classics, Faculty of Arts - named a finalist for the 2017 Canada Prize in the Humanities and Social Sciences for the book, From New Peoples to New Nations: Aspects of Métis History and Identity from the Eighteenth to Twenty-First Centuries

• Michael Frishkopf, Professor, Faculties of Medicine & Dentistry and Arts (Music) - received a Kule Cluster Grant for his proposal, Deep Learning for Sound Recognition Deep Learning for Sound Recognition

• Kennedy Ganser, Pandas Hockey - named Canada West Hockey Rookie of the Year (F)

• Mamadou Gueye, Golden Bears Basketball - named Athlete of the Week

• Lois Harder, Professor and Chair, Department of Political Science, Faculty of Arts - member of a research team that received a Kule Cluster Grant for the interdisciplinary project, Building Research at the Intersections of Gender Building Research at the Intersections of Gender

• Natasha Hurley, Associate Professor, Departments of English and Film Studies and Women's & Gender Studies, faculty of Arts - member of a research team that received a Kule Cluster Grant for the interdisciplinary project, Building Research at the Intersections of Gender Building Research at the Intersections of Gender

• Susanne Luhmann, Associate Professor and Department Chair, Department of Women's & Gender Studies, Faculty of Arts - member of a research team that received a Kule Cluster Grant for the interdisciplinary project, Building Research at the Intersections of Gender Building Research at the Intersections of Gender

• On February 28, the federal government announced more than $2 million in research infrastructure funding for 14 projects at the U of A through the Canada Foundation for Innovation's John R. Evans Leaders Fund. Congratulations to the following researchers:

• Golden Bears Basketball - won the Canada West Championship, the 12th in program history

• Golden Bears and Pandas Curling - won the Western Canadian University Curling Championship, both advancing to the U SPORTS Championship

• Golden Bears Hockey - won the Canada West Championship, their fourth title in five years

• Golden Bears and Pandas Tennis - won their 11th consecutive Western Canadian University regional championship

Congratulations to all of the 2017 Faculty of Arts Teaching Award recipients!

• In the recent QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017, the U of A ranked in the top 100 in an unprecedented 25 subjects, including 10th in the world for sports-related subjects
