• René Belland, Associate Director (University of Alberta Botanic Garden) and Faculty Service Officer, Department of Renewable Resources, Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences - received the Magister Teaching Award from the Canadian Botanical Association
• Ted Bishop, Professor, Department of English and Film Studies, Faculty of Arts - inducted into the City of Edmonton Arts and Culture Hall of Fame
• Sharon Brintnell, Professor, Department of Occupational Therapy, Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine - received the 2017 Alumni Achievement Award for Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto
• Sarah Carter, Professor and Tory Chair, Department of History and Classics, Faculty of Arts - awarded both the Cilo Prize for the Prairies and the Sir John A. • Ryan Clements, Sessional Instructor, Faculty of Law - received a Viscount Bennett Scholarship from the Law Society of Alberta
• Terry Danyluk, Head Coach, Golden Bears Volleyball - inducted into the 2017 class of the Volleyball Canada Hall of Fame

• Alinda Friedman, Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychology - awarded the Raymond Nickerson Best Paper Award by the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied for the co-authored work, "Where Are You? • Joel Gehman, Assistant Professor, Alberta School of Business - won the Roland Calori Prize for Best Paper in the journal Organization Studies for his work, "Tackling Grand Challenges Pragmatically: Robust Action Revisited"

• Austen Lee, Undergraduate Student, Department of English and Film Studies, Faculty of Arts - received the James H. Gray Award for Short Nonfiction at the 2017 Alberta Literary Awards for the story, "Among Cougars and Men"

• Marc McCoy, Student, Alberta School of Business - received both the Dr. Hu Harries Medal and the Governor General's Silver Medal
• Devidas Menon, Professor and Senior Advisor (Health Technology Policy Unit), School of Public Health - received the Dr. Jill M. Sanders Award of Excellence in Health Technology Assessment from the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health
• Evelyn Merrill, Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science - named an Excellence in Elk Country-Wildlife Researcher/Biologist by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation
• Maria Montenegro, MSc Student, Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology, Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences - received "Outstanding MSc Thesis" designations from both the Canadian Agricultural Economics Society and the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association

• Alice Nakamura, Professor, Alberta School of Business - named a Fellow of the Canadian Economics Association
• Kacey Neely, PhD Student, Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation - received the Governor General's Gold Medal
• Masahito Oba, Professor, Department of Agricultural Food and Nutritional Science, Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences - received the Applied Dairy Nutrition Award from the American Dairy Science Association, and the Award for Excellence in Nutrition and Meat Sciences from the Canadian and Soiciety of Animal Science
• Lindsay Orser, Student, School of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - received the 2017 Alberta Premier's Silver Medal, the James McCutcheon Honour Award, the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology Dental Student Award, and the Alberta Dental Association & College Gold Medal
• Kyle Pushkarenko, Graduate Student, Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation - received a 2017 Graduate Student Teaching Award
• Geoffrey Rockwell, Professor and Director (Kule Institute for Advanced Study), Faculty of Arts - won the Canadian Society for Digital Humanities (CSDH) Outstanding Contribution Award
• Lukas Roth, Assistant Professor, Alberta School of Business - won second prize in UC Berkeley Haas' Investment for Impact Research Prize competition for his paper, "Do Institutional Investors Drive Corporate Social Responsibility? International Evidence"
• Hassan Safouhi, Professor and Associate Dean, Campus Saint-Jean - received a 2017 Killam Annual Professorship

• Alberta Centre for Sustainable Rural Communities, Augustana Campus - received a $2M CIHR grant to respond to the impacts of resource development
• Canadian Indigenous Language and Literacy Development Institute - received a $665,000 grant from the Government of Alberta to bolster the training of Indigenous language teachers
• Division of Infectious Diseases, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - celebrated its 50th anniversary
• New Trail - won gold for Best Print Magazine from Prix D'Excellence, the annual awards program of the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education
• Orchesis Dance Program - won the Canada 150 in 150 video contest in the performing arts category

Lastly, congratulations to: the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, which was recognized by UNESCO as a "World Centre of Excellence on Landslide Disaster Reduction"; everyone involved with university's Fort McMurray evacuees response, whose work was recently recognized with a CCUFSA Shine Award; all of the June and July award recipients in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry; and the University of Alberta as whole, which jumped to 90th in the 2018 QS World University Rankings, and 42nd in the 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities in Social Science.
