As communicated in early May, Mr. Gerald Beasley will be leaving his role as Vice-Provost (Learning Services) and Chief Librarian, effective July 31, 2017. I am pleased to announce that Dr. Kathleen De Long has agreed to serve as Interim Vice-Provost (Learning Services) and Chief Librarian for the period August 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018, or until such time as a new Vice-Provost and Chief Librarian is appointed. Many of you who know Dr. De Long will agree that she brings a wealth of knowledge to this role.

Dr. De Long holds a PhD in Library and Information Studies from Simmons College, Boston MA, as well as a Master’s in Library Science and a Master’s in Public Management, both from the University of Alberta. Dr. De Long has been a member of the 8Rs Research Team since 2003, and has been involved in two major Canadian studies of human resources in libraries. She recently served as the Acting Vice-Provost (Learning Services) and Chief Librarian from July 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016.

The University will be commencing a search for a new Vice-Provost (Learning Services) and Chief Librarian in the 2017–18 academic year.
