Dean Andre Costopoulos' current term as Vice-Provost and Dean of Students ends on June 30, 2021. In accordance with University policy and procedure, a Dean Review Committee has been established by the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), who is chairing this Committee.

As its first action, the Dean Review Committee calls for your advice and opinion on the state of the Office of the Dean of Students under the leadership of Dean Costopoulos. Specifically, the Committee is interested in the following:

1) LeadershipLeadership - demonstrates a high level of integrity and commitment to University and its values; inspires a shared vision of the Office of the Dean of Students; ensures efficient and exemplary service to students and units who provide services to students; builds a team in the Office of the Dean of Students that reflects institutional goals and communicates those goals; leads academic planning processes; maintains effective, collaborative relations with student associations; promotes an inclusive and respectful culture in the Office of the Dean of Students; provides strong, transparent leadership;

2) AdvocacyAdvocacy - builds effective relationships; promotes/advocates for the Office of the Dean of Students to a broad spectrum of constituents, including University community and other community leaders, agencies and key institutions regionally, nationally and internationally;

3) Teaching and LearningTeaching and Learning - oversees specialized academic supports for students; works with Faculties to provide academic supports to students;

4) Faculty and Staff RelationsFaculty and Staff Relations - plans and prioritizes human resource needs for the Office of the Dean of Students; is accessible and fair in dealing with personnel issues; builds an environment of collegiality and respect;

5) AdministrationAdministration - ensures compliance with University policies; demonstrates financial acumen and ensures fiscal responsibility in working with budgets, funds, and financial processes; exercises good judgement in the management of change and risk;

6) External Relations and AdvancementExternal Relations and Advancement - builds national and international linkages; pro-actively looks for new challenges and funding sources; attracts resources to the Office of the Dean of Students from government, philanthropy and other programs; works with advancement professionals, and leads unit's fund development activities.

7) Additional Responsibilities Specific to Discipline Additional Responsibilities Specific to Discipline - focuses on wellness and student retention through supports to students; makes decisions involving students in distress and development of crisis response; creates and maintains a safe and enriching experience for undergraduate and graduate students including FNMI students; demonstrated understanding of relevant student conduct and accessibility policies and procedures; oversees Healthy Campus Unit and Wellness Services; liaises with student associations and student groups; instills a culture of collaboration and team approach working with central units and Faculty-based student supports; developing and maintaining resiliency personally and among colleagues; knowledge about the profession of student services, including research and evidenced-based best practices and decision-making.
