As faculty, staff, or postdoctoral fellows, we seek to experience diverse and rewarding development opportunities that inspire us, nurture our talents, expand our knowledge and skills, and enable our success.

As leaders, we know that enriching learning and professional development supports the University of Alberta’s ability to attract, recruit, and retain talented people, enhances the quality of our work and learning environment, facilitates organizational transformation, and increases engagement of staff, faculty, and postdoctoral fellows alike.

Objective 15 of “For the Public Good”“For the Public Good” describes the university’s aim to build a culture that inspires and fosters enriching learning and professional development opportunities for staff, faculty, and postdoctoral fellows. Human Resource Services (HRS) is pleased to facilitate the development of a plan to accomplish Objective 15 in collaboration and consultation with stakeholders across the university.

Sponsored by the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) and Vice-President (Finance and Administration) and directed by a steering committee, the Objective 15 Working Group will be consulting and engaging leaders, faculty, staff, and postdoctoral fellows, service providers of professional development and other key stakeholders over the next year in the development of actionable strategies and plans for accomplishing the objective.

We invite and encourage you to participate in consultation activities during the coming months. Understanding the experiences and needs of all staff and faculty will be key to the development of an evidence-based and robust plan.

Sincerely,

Wayne Patterson — Acting AVP Human Resource Services and Chair of the Professional Development Steering Committee
