Spring convocation always represents a high-point in the yearly rhythm of life on campus. This June, 7,000 students are graduating from the University of Alberta. Each of them has invested a tremendous effort to reach this point - and although the ceremony must follow a different format, we felt it was important to uphold the tradition of recognizing their accomplishments in June.

I invite you, the U of A community, to join us for our first-ever virtual convocation:

Friday, June 12, 2020
10 a.m. MST

Registration not required

Convocation is one of our university's most important ceremonies - it celebrates years of study, intellectual growth, and personal discovery. It also marks a milestone which, if anything, is made more significant by the adversity of the past weeks.

Many in our community have a family member crossing the virtual stage this year. For others, convocation is an opportunity to congratulate and support their students, research assistants, colleagues and friends. Whatever the reason, I encourage you to join us as we celebrate our students' achievements together with their families on June 12.

In the next few weeks we will share additional information about how you can engage online and through social media leading up to and including convocation day.

David H. Turpin
President and Vice-Chancellor

When it becomes possible, the University of Alberta will hold an in-person celebration for the Class of 2020. In the interim, we are proud and honoured to celebrate this milestone with our students at ualberta.ca on the morning of June 12.ualberta.ca on the morning of June 12.
