It used to be the power plant when I was a student here, but now it’s the fountain just outside the Registrar’s Office. It’s a relaxing place and I love the sound of running water.

A bit of both. I like to work on a computer, but I like to take tests on paper because that’s how I learned. I was potentially going to pursue a graduate degree, and I chose which faculty to apply to based on the fact that the GRE was online, so I chose to take the LSAT because it was all based in paper.

I have pictures in my office that were made by very special people in my life.

My mom, my grandmother, and my grandfather made these, plus I have some of my kids’ drawings.

My children (although my iPhone is my second choice). As my kids get older they mean more and more to me. My eldest will be applying to the U of A for school next year, and I love having them in my house as they grow up and we do fun things together. I couldn’t live without them.

I hate flying, but if I won airfare, I think it would be Thailand. I have an aunt who’s traveled extensively in southeast Asia, and she’s shared with me a lot of the things that she’s done. She’s volunteered at an elephant sanctuary, to help with pandas, orphanages, things like that. I would love to go there and do stuff like that.

I’m going to have to be a nerd and say Harry Potter. I love the books, and the Christmas tradition in our house used to be watching The Godfather Trilogy, but now with my kids we watch the Harry Potter movies.

Because I get to work with a lot of medical researchers in my office, I’m very invested in the medical field, and I think it would be very interesting to be a doctor. If I had to choose someone specific, it would be Dr. Brian Rowe. He’s an emergency doctor that I’ve worked with. I find his particular job, reach, and impact on the university to be very admirable.

There are so many areas on campus that touch different people — from student life to the humanities to biomedical research — there are so many things that go on at this university that have an impact on so many people. That’s what it means to me — being a part of an institution that has such a huge impact on the people around us.

Climate change. It touches so many things — from how food will be sustainable as my children grow up, the constant weather emergencies — if I could do something that would reduce humanity’s environmental impact, I would.

Learning, Service, and Discovery.
