In Memoriam: Lech Jan Ozimek

The University of Alberta banner is flying at half-mast in remembrance of Professor Lech Ozimek, from the department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Lech Jan Ozimek on April 29, 2017. He passed away peacefully with family and friends by his side, at the age of 66. We bid a tearful farewell to our loving husband, father and friend. Lech was born on June 24, 1950 in Kamienszczyzna, Poland, Son of Tadeusz Ozimek and Regina Milczarek. He is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline Martin Lopez, and three children Tomasz, Agata and Antonio, his brother Waldek, sister Ula, granddaughter Natalia.and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dr Lech Ozimek, PhD, University of Agriculture and Technology, Olsztyn, Poland. He specialized in Dairy Processing Technology & Food Product and Process Development. Lech was a pioneer in the field of Dairy Technology, Professor of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Alberta from 1982 to 2017. During 35 years of research in his field he collaborated with National and International Universities around the world as well as publishing books and hundreds of research papers in many peer reviewed journals. He was also an international educator and a member of many national and international professional organizations including the Alberta Dairy Association Research Unit (ADARU) and International College of Nutrition (ICN) for which he served as President among others.
Among his many achievements, Lech embraced life with his enthusiasm for fishing, boating, cooking, biking, skiing, and travelling. His greatest joy was his family, with whom he shared his love of life, and all the opportunities and experiences it has to offer. Like the North Star, his light will continue to shine and be a beacon for others to navigate through their lives for many years to come!

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a Fund yet to be established either at the University of Alberta providing a scholarship or the Cross Cancer Institute, in support of research to find a cure for Cancer, or to a charity of your choice.
