The federal government regulates the use, production, and storage of certain nuclear materials (uranium, thorium, plutonium); preparations that contain these materials(including uranyl acetate - often used as a stain in electron microscopy)​; and any research and development pertaining to the nuclear fuel cycle. Regulations are to fulfill the "Safeguards" program: a series of measures set by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

If your research meets the criteria above, you must complete the following "Safeguards" Declaration form by December 22, 2017:

Environment, Health & Safety will compile the information and submit it, on behalf of the University of Alberta, to the federal regulators.
